Simone Soltan has lived in many different places in North America, including 25 years in Canada. Throughout her extensive training and many years of professional experience in Education she has maintained her strong interests in Art. She has had various studies in art, including an undergraduate Honor’s Degree from the University of British Columbia in Fine Arts and Education. Moving to North Carolina became a turning point in Simone’s life because she became involved in Jewish Education, as well as in Jewish art. She was the founding Director and Head of School of the very first and only Jewish Day School in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. Simone’s educational knowledge, philosophy, vision and determination were instrumental in undertaking this project, and in making it a success. When she retired from the Day School she rapidly returned full time to her work in art. In the last few years she has shown her work in juried exhibitions around the country, including Columbia University, NYC, The Women's Museum in Dallas, and the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Simone currently is the Chair and Curator of her Synagogue Gallery, and also serves as the National Exhibitions Co-Chair for the Jewish Women Artists Network (JWAN), a special interest group within the National Women's Caucus for Art. Her art work focuses on Judaic and spiritual themes, and her favorite media to work in is mixed media collage.
